Frugal Tuesday: Four Cheap Recipes using Oranges

So, this blog is about eating seasonally. And technically, it is the season for all things citrus. But I always have a dilemma about sharing citrussy recipes on Carpe Season…because even though lemons, limes, and oranges are in season right now, they still have to be shipped thousands of miles to get to snow-covered Minnesota: a step in the food chain I’m not thrilled about. Yet, I still eat about eight Cuties a day this time of year. So even though I may not be quite as locally minded as some, let’s celebrate the season with a few frugal recipes that rely on the season’s oranges.

1. Orange Quinoa Salad with Pomegranate Seeds from Citron Limette
This side dish is full of flavor and pretty cheap, especially if you can find those pomegranates on sale!

2. Cherry Glazed Country Ribs (with orange zest!) from The Midnight Baker
I often buy country style ribs on sale for super cheap…this version makes good use of cherry preserves and orange zest to make a bright dry rub!

3. Blood Orange Marmalade from Made In Our Kitchen
Love the idea of pairing this simple marmalade with a sharp cheese to make it into a hearty snack!

4. Delicata Squash with Orange and Pistachios from Huffpost Taste
Love the idea of pairing winter squash with oranges; I can’t wait to try this one!

And there’s one more…that I can’t officially endorse, because I’m months away from spinach here…and it’s not ultra-frugal, but I can’t stop thinking about this spinach and feta blood orange salad from Joy the Baker. #whyminnesota?
